Night Porter – Overnight Operations & Guest Services

Location: City Backpackers HQ, 380 Upper Roma Street, Brisbane
Hours: Overnight shifts (typically between 10:00pm – 6:00am/11:00PM - 07:00am flexible depending on occupancy)
Employment Type: Casual

About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and responsible Night Porter to oversee the hostel during overnight hours.
This role is critical to the safety, cleanliness, and smooth operation of the building during the night.
You will be the sole point of contact overnight and must be comfortable working independently, managing late-night situations calmly, and responding to emergencies when required.

Key Responsibilities
- Guest Services & Reception
- Handle late night check-ins.
- Provide assistance and answer enquiries to guests as required overnight
- Enforce house rules in a calm and professional manner
- Deal with noise complaints and anti-social behaviour promptly

Building Monitoring & Security
- Conduct regular patrols of the building and common areas
- Monitor noise levels throughout the night
- Ensure all external doors, emergency exits, and restricted areas are secure
- Monitor CCTV systems where applicable
- Report any suspicious activity, maintenance issues, or security concerns to management.

Fire Safety & Emergency Response
- Be responsible for overnight fire safety monitoring
- Ensure fire exits are clear and unobstructed
- Respond immediately to fire alarms or emergency activations
- Complete incident reports where required

Cleaning & Housekeeping Duties
- Clean and reset common areas including kitchens, bathrooms, lounges, and reception
- Empty rubbish and recycling
- Refill supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels if required.
- Prepare common areas for the morning.

Administrative & Reporting Duties
- Complete nightly handover reports for management and morning staff.
- Log incidents, noise complaints, maintenance issues, and guest disturbances
- Assist with basic system updates such as arrivals, departures, and notes

Skills & Experience Required
- Previous night porter, hotel, hostel, or security experience preferred but not required.
- Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle conflict professionally
- Comfortable working alone overnight
- Good communication and basic computer skills
- Physically able to complete cleaning and patrol duties
