Nomads Sydney – Hostel & Bar

The Role

We’re looking for a hands-on, reliable Maintenance / Handyperson to take ownership of day-to-day maintenance operations across Nomads Sydney Hostel and Bar.

This is a true jack-of-all-trades role. You’ll be the go-to person for reactive maintenance, preventative works, and small projects, helping keep a busy hostel and bar running safely, smoothly, and to a high standard. The role suits someone practical, organised, physically capable, and comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll report directly to the Facilities Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Operations

Day-to-day maintenance of bathrooms, bedrooms, bar areas, back-of-house and common areas

Responding to reactive maintenance issues quickly and effectively

Identifying issues early and preventing small problems becoming big ones

Planning & Preventative Maintenance

Plan and implement daily, weekly, monthly and annual preventative maintenance schedules

Maintain accurate maintenance records and logs

Assist with renovations, refurbishments and minor project works as required

Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure the property meets all Health & Safety and fire safety obligations

Actively manage ad-hoc maintenance and compliance issues in line with company protocols

Support audits, inspections and compliance requirements

Communication & Collaboration

Provide daily and weekly building updates to the General Manager

Maintain strong communication with Hostel, Bar, Housekeeping and Front Office teams

Liaise with contractors and suppliers when required

Budgets & Assets

Work within maintenance budgets and assist with cost control

Help identify cost-effective solutions without compromising safety or quality

What We’re Looking For

Strong general maintenance skills across a range of basic trades

A trade qualification is preferred but not essential

Proven ability to work autonomously and manage your own workload

Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

Physically fit and capable of hands-on work

Confident communicator who works well across multiple departments

Experience in hostels, hotels, bars or similar high-traffic environments is highly regarded

A practical, solutions-focused mindset with a can-do attitude
