Farmhand Internship Beef Cattle

stuart coffs harbour region, Coffs Harbour

2nd Year Visa Eligible

Job Description

Hello backpackers/ travellers,

Are you tired of fruit picking work? No experience in other farm work?

Well try the real Australian farm experience (and get some training to make you more marketable in the workplace or just have an awesome experience).

This beef cattle breeding farm can supply continuous work, short or long term is available.

I’m looking for people who wish to stay for a minimum* of 2 weeks to 3 months as the farm has a tight schedule to follow (*less by negotiation if you have previous farm or trade experience relevant to my operations).

PLEASE NOTE:

One position is PAID work (experienced only, contract terms: payment on invoice supported by ABN or Statement by a Supplier)

One role is VOLUNTARY, no paid work, however, the accommodation and food is provided for free so you can save money whilst working, and gain the experience to GET similar paid work (maybe even here!).
You are more than welcome to bring food if you wish.

both positions count for visa credits, since the farm is in both a bushfire and flood affected area (coffs harbour postcode 2450: see link below, it mentions flood recovery work as a specified work option, including work as a volunteer

https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/work-holiday-417/specified-work

If applying for either job please note that I would prefer you email to me DIRECT [email address removed]
or phone me on 0429094776 (and be persistent as I can’t always answer the phone and work long hours)!

The farm itself has (currently) 51 adult cattle (various ages, mostly female) and 43 calves. It is 60ha in size.

current jobs include weed control, flood recovery work (fencing/litter/driftwood/road and gateway repairs), some cattle work (change calf pesticide tags as required; feed 2 cows and 1 steer daily; wash and grease back end one calf daily; emergent health issues atm mostly feet from prolonged wet weather, periodic vaccinations & pesticide tag replacements…), fence repairs and erection. other tasks may be available if these are gotten on top of in a timely manner, and of course farm priorities will change as time moves along eg once mating over with at end september, bull and companion animal will be separated and need daily feed also; as pastures are struggling to recover from flood effects, supplementary feeding of cattle needed on an ongoing basis so help with that would be appreciated as it can make a time consuming job a little shorter and allow more time for other jobs

Please don’t regard this as an easy opportunity to gain farming experience as there are important aspects in running the farm.

Please be prepared to get dirty with physical work involved. This can be a fun environment if you are prepared to put the effort in. Whilst I am prepared to train I also expect applicants to assume responsibility for work they are given and to think about what they are doing.

The farm has great visual aspects, with a river running around the site, with great valley views. If you’re interested in wildlife then there is a lot to see from snakes (if you wish to find them), platypus, echidna, wallabies, turtles, water dragons and plenty of bird wildlife.

Transport includes a school bus right past the farm gate, other forms we can discuss if you wish over the phone.

Visitors have mobile and internet reception at this site, provided the carrier and equipment are suitable. 2 local villages are within 6 km away. Accommodation is sharing the farmhouse with me (own bedroom or share with another backpacker, share other facilities and housework!). applicants are also welcome to live out if they wish

Willing to train inexperienced people who are prepared to put the work in to learn. Previous experience/practical skills highly regarded.
