Kitchenhand/Grounds Person – Mornington Wilderness Camp
Central Kimberley, WA
~ A unique opportunity to help shape the future of private sector conservation in the Kimberley ~
This is a unique opportunity for a practical, hands-on, easy-going person to dedicate their time, passion and abilities and become an integral part of a team protecting the spectacular Kimberley landscape and its threatened wildlife. You will have the opportunity to explore this magnificent part of the Kimberley and every day you will awaken to an experience like no other. Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) – the largest private (non-profit) owner/manager of land for conservation in Australia managing 29 sanctuaries, including 7 properties in the Kimberley region – is looking for an experienced Kitchenhand/Grounds Person to work within a small team of people to facilitate the operation of the renowned Mornington Wilderness Camp (MWC).
MWC is one of the Kimberley’s highest rated destinations, known worldwide for its scenery (sandstone escarpments, ancient gorges and vast savanna woodlands), its wildlife (Gouldian Finches are one of 200 bird species) and the integration with a working conservation project. Attracting 4,500 visitors each year, MWC offers safari tent accommodation, 25 site campground, a licensed bush restaurant and a range of tours/interpretative products. AWC also operates Charnley River Wilderness Camp in the central Kimberley, with a spacious 30 site campground and a small range of tours on offer.
Based at MWC, this is a stunning opportunity to be a part of the continued success of an iconic wilderness camp which contributes substantially to the success of Australia’s most effective conservation organisation. All proceeds from our Kimberley Wilderness Camps are invested in the conservation of AWC’s Kimberley properties. Your success in this role will mean more revenue to invest in the conservation of threatened species such as the Gouldian Finch and the Northern Quoll and greater public awareness about AWC and the plight of Australia’s wildlife.
During the Kimberley dry season (March to October), AWC is seeking an energetic, experienced and committed Kitchenhand/Grounds Person for Mornington Wilderness Camp. This is a unique opportunity to provide high quality hospitality services in a spectacular environment. The successful candidate will be an experienced Kitchenhand/Grounds person and ideally have experience living in a remote environment.
Based at AWC’s Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary, reporting to the Mornington Wilderness Camp Manager and under the direction of the Maintenance & Grounds Person, you will ensure that visitor accommodation, amenities, restaurant and kitchen, are maintained in good working condition. The Kitchenhand/groundsperson also carries out general maintenance tasks, minor mechanical & tyre repairs, and a range of logistical support duties. You will be highly organised, self-sufficient, hands-on, flexible with work hours, and have a background or interest in nature conservation.
This offer includes a salary plus basic single share accommodation and meals provided.
