Planting, pulling And Picking For Upcoming Strawberry Season

Queensland Farm Management and Training Caboolture, Brisbane

2nd Year Visa Eligible

Job Description

For the upcoming strawberry Season working with Queensland Farm Management and Training one of the Largest Registered Labour Hire Providers in Queensland we require immediate start.

We believe in providing all our employees with total honesty and transparency with regards to the work on offer, and with this in thought we hereby offer you an overview of the work that is on offer at present.

We are seeking people for immediate start as we are currently working every day ( Except Sunday) from 5:30 am until 1Pm digging out old plants from the old plastic so that we can replant fresh plants in a couple of weeks, this work will go right through until we start planting

PLANT DIGGING

Here is a few things you should know about Plant Digging.

You need to be physically fit to do this job, it is not for the faint heated and it is taxing on your body
You need to be mentally strong, as working in the heat can break you spirits quickly
You will need to have your own accommodation and transport, As licensed labor hire providers we do not offer accommodation, however we do have several contacts for share housing which we can recommend to you, where we can pass you their contact details to negotiate terms directly.
You will need your own transport, we are working on various farms and every day the location may change there are no public transport routes near these farms so your own transportation is a must.

PLANTING

We will work plant digging right up until planting season, if you thought digging was hard, planting is just as hard maybe even harder as the fields get wet down for 24 hours before planting starts so its back breaking work with mud thrown in, it can be like trench warfare at time slipping and sliding in the mud I am not trying to scare any of you I am just being very transparent
Same principles for planting apply as digging it is hard back breaking work, we also pay piecework for planting, I have not set the rate as yet as I want to see the size of the plants before we commit to a price, I do this because I the plants are small I will need to get the farms to pay a higher price as they take longer to plant, and and if there bigger its quicker there are many factors to consider, at Queensland Farm Management and Training we ensure that the piecework’s are achievable fair and just prior to the commencement of any work
Working for planting is also half days we like to start at 5:30 and finishing around 1Pm as you do get very tired quickly,
You will need rubber or gum boots, a wide hat to avoid sunburn, sunscreen, plenty of water, some people also choose to wear a light raincoat as you can get wet
Planting days is not every day despite what people will tell you, we aim to get the plants in the ground as quick as possible however we are governed by availability of the plant, and as every farmer wants his plants straight away, we might get plants in the take 3 days to plant then wait a day or two for more to arrive, usually in my experience during planting season, we aim to work 5 days a week.

Once planting is complete we begin pruning and then onto picking at the start of May.

600 positions to fill.!!!!!!
Everyday worked goes towards your 88 day sign off.
