Prestonholme Nurseries was established in 1954 when Mr James P. Walter purchased the homestead of Prestonholme on the banks of the Grangeburn River at Hamilton. He transfered his small local business to the property where he expanded to grow seedlings in open beds to sell to the local area. A reputation for quality seedlings was developed and has been built on in that time.
Prestonholme is now being run by the third generation of Walters. Mr Richard Walter continued to build on the foundations of his father, from 1965 until his retirement in 1997. His son Peter Walter now continues to operate the business, launching the Easy Colour trademark in 2007 Peter has now expanded to leading nursery retailers across, Victoria, South Australia, ACT and NSW.
