Central Victoria, 3 week minimum visit.
Various Dates available from April and onwards.

You will be with 5 other helpers from Australia and around the world.
Duties Include, but not limited to
- Bottle Feeding Joeys 4 times a day
- Hand feeding birds
- General cleaning and animal husbandry
- Ensuring the health and well being of "your joeys"
- Feeding and care of various other animals
- About 3-4 hours work per morning additional to feeds throughout day (varies due to Human:Joey ratio)
- Very Real "Hands On" experience and so rewarding!
- Genuinely make a difference every day!
Experience not required, however patience and a willingness to learn and ask questions is essential.
Car/Licence not required (Public Transport near by, and we can collect you)
Fluency in English is a must.
Basic Accoms and food included.
Wildlife Rescue and care is considered an essential service.
It’s an amazing experience but you must really love animals as you’ll be spending most of your days amongst them and everything that goes with it.
(Poo, dirt, responsibility, etc).
The nearest 2 towns are Inglewood and Maryborough mins away)
It's pretty constant, unpredictable and dirty work, but also amazing and just the best thing ever.
There are currently 3 feeds per day.
9am, 2pm, 7pm. But when we have enough people it will go back up to 4 feeds,
We have morning chores everyday, that involve cleaning lots of poop, sweeping and mopping, that takes about 3-4 hours (inclusive of the first feed).
Plus the 2 other feeds which take about an hour or so (depending on the human: Joey ratio) each, but it's easy, you spend most of that time cuddling and scratching.
A lot of us spend our free time like that too.
You get assigned your own Kangaroos to look after and feed, they are your babies, it's very hands on.
They get very attached to you, and are so lovey and cuddly!
We basically do everything ourselves under the supervision, but any questions or issues, concerns, medical things, bandaging, etc is done by the shelter owner, but the rest is up to us. We learn so much!
There's no real days off, (because babies need to eat everyday) but we get the occasional feed off to go to a local swimming hole or explore on hot days (they don't like to eat too much then anyways).
Any time between feeds is also our free time, to do whatever we want.
It's very simple and basic here, which I love. I have been here over 4 months and I never want to leave.
Our rooms are small and basic, a bed and some shelves, linen, pillows electric blanket included.
They DO have aircon as well.
Wi-Fi is available in certain areas, and the only phone company that works out here is Telstra
(I Highly recommend getting an Aldi SIM! Insanely Cheap with crazy amounts of data and calls, I will be switching my phone plan when I get back, actually)
We submit a grocery list once a week which is paid for by the Shelter.
The groceries often come from Aldi, any gaps come from Woolies or Coles.
Specialty, expensive or brand name things we have to get ourselves.
Breakfast and lunch we kinda do individually, but we all share dinner together.
Whoever wants to cook, cooks for everyone, we take turns ?
There is also an IGA, Woolies, Aldi and Coles 20-30mins away.
For how very basic the kitchen is, we get some amazing meals out of it!
We also have a handmade fire pit and woodfire pizza oven.
We don't require experience, it's all "on the job training"
As long as you genuinely care, are patient, willing to learn and comfortable getting dirty you will be amazing at it.
(Volunteering in Victoria at a wildlife shelter does not count towards 2nd year visas
We also cannot help you with your visa, or flights etc)
No pets or children can be brought to a shelter
