Experience The Rhythm And Routine Of Daily Australian Farm Life.

Guanaba Farm Guanaba, Gold Coast

Job Description

We are a farming couple in their 50's potting around doing interesting projects & everyday farm stuff. (This is a volunteer position exchange for food & accom) We are in the Gold Coast hinterland area, 35mins to the beach. You will become part of our family while you are here. Unfortunately we are not in the correct postcode for 2nd holiday visa.
We have lots of projects in various stages of completion, from building stone gateways, to house renovations, gardening, fencing, property maintenance & animal care.
Everything is pretty laid back & you'll become part of our family while you are here. If you are thinking of working on the 'big' farms (called stations) in the Australian Outback, it is a great advantage to have learned some of the skills required. Unlike income producing farms, we're not under any time constraints to train you, nor are we under any pressure to meet deadlines, or make money off our property. Longer than 2 weeks stays are preferred. You will have your own fully self contained accommodation in a 40ft bus & all meals provided. We've been hosting a long time & know how to look after our helpers.
We usually do things together, our days run to a routine and we're organized. Everyday we have farm chores, animals to feed, plants to water, we do different jobs on different days. We are good teachers & we'll show you how to do stuff.
Our life is centered around caring for our farm, our animals & birds, much wildlife , gardens & forest. Our meals times are regular, & we are quite fun & social.
Our day always commences with feeding and tending the animals , birds and any wildlife we have in care. This includes collecting the horse poo in bags (we use it on the gardens), remaking horse feed buckets & filling water troughs. Followed by watering gardens & other regular daily & weekly chores & maintenance tasks. We then move on to progressing our current farm projects.
We are meat eaters so it is tricky for us to cater for vegos & vegans. Non cigarette smokers are preferred. It's better if you have your own transport, there is no public transport to our farm. We will ask you to give us a photo of some ID please.
No pets please.
Helpers prepare their own breakfast (we supply), we prepare all other meals, which we eat together around a table.
We don't usually book you too far in advance because over the years we've had so many travellers change their plans and not turn up. Contact us when you are 1 or 2 weeks away from arriving in the Gold Coast or in Brisbane areas, or coming this way, and we shall see if we have a vacancy. That seems to work the best for everyone. As you can imagine, it would be rude to ask another helper to leave because you are coming.
We don't provide alcohol I'm sorry, but you may bring your own if you wish.
Remember to bring:
ID
Covered shoes or boots
Long sleeves & long pants are needed sometimes.
Hat or cap
Raincoat
Insect repellent
Toiletries
Water bottle

Thanks for your wonderful experiences over the years
and safe travelling to you all .
