Backpacker Hostel Caretaker(s)

Caretaker(s) needed to independently run a budget hostel and backpacker at Swansea on Tasmania’s East Coast.

Swansea is a scenic coastal township, midway between two iconic landmarks - Freycinet National Park and Maria Island.
The owner is intending to take some leave for 3-6 months and would be overseas for some of the time.

Duties would include monitoring visitor short and long term stays, regular cleaning of the premises, carrying out room changeovers (including laundering linen) and undertaking some lawn mowing of a courtyard lawn and small attached camping area.

The position would ideally suit a couple.
Numerous additional work opportunities also exist in the town in hospitality and cleaning at the many tourist accommodation venues and work at the adjacent Bark Mill Tavern bar, restaurant and bakery.

Accommodation in a caravan would be provided along with a vehicle and a salary of $550 per week paid officially.

From mid May to early Sep the hostel will be closed to the general public to accommodate up to 45 seasonal workers employed under the government's PALM SCHEME (Pacific Australia Labour Mobility)
These workers will be off site from 7am to 4.30pm each week day.
They are self sufficient in terms of cooking and basic kitchen lounge tidiness but the caretakers will need to undertake daily cleaning of other communal areas in addition to regularly laundering bedroom linen.
After this period a group of up to 15 workers would remain but the hostel would also be re-opened to the general general traveling public.

The owner will be at the property for several weeks whilst transitioning.

The work will require resilience and flexibility.
