Trainee Skipper

Melbourne Boat Hire offers premium cruise and self-drive boat hire experiences on Melbourne's iconic Yarra River.  We operate a fleet of modern and mainly electric vessels.

We are currently seeking a trainee Skipper to join our team immediately on a full-time basis.

We will provide on-the-job training and the sea time to successfully gain your Coxswain Grade 1 certificate within 12 months.

Role Duties:

Skippering our small group cruise options.  Which includes scenic cruises, wine and cheese cruises, wedding proposals, and private lunch and dinner cruises.
Setting up boats for each cruise, ensuring clean arranging catering, beverages onboard, etc., then cleaning boats on return ready for the next cruise.
Cleaning and general maintenance of fleet vessels.
Assist with self-drive hire boats.  Which includes preparing for hire, completing safety briefings with hirers, and receiving hire boats back at the completion of hire.
Assisting on our larger passenger boats as Deckhand when required

Desired qualifications/skills/prerequisites:

Year 12 VCE completion.
Interest in working within the marine tourism industry.
Some previous recreational boating experience is preferred and has a recreational boat license.
Must be willing to learn, and able to think ahead to deal with situations that may arise.
Be well present and have excellent communication.
Available to work weekends.
Willing to commit to a minimum 12-month traineeship.
