Seeking enthusiastic and energetic can-do people with experience in live aboard Boat Maintenance and repairs.
We are situated on Thursday Island, a dynamic and beautiful part of the country that not many people get to see. With great diving and fishing opportunities at your doorstep,
Thursday Island is a short 1.5 hour QantasLink flight from Cairns to Horn Island with 2 services daily.
We have a Solid Timber 60ft Tasmanian Built Huon Pine motor yacht which requires regular maintenance and ongoing repair work in the water as we prepare her for a trip South to Cairns for out of water survey and bottom works later this year. After our purchase mid last year, we have been working through and getting systems running and operating again. There are some areas of the boat that need to be refreshed and repaired and you would be onboard as a live aboard arrangement.
The successful steward/s will live on board at anchor or on our Swing Mooring in Thursday Island Harbour Far North Queensland, you will always show good seamanship and will be respectful of the boat, the owners, their family, and fellow workers…
The Role:
You will work closely with the owners to ensure all aspects of the boat are maintained and cleaned, you will also be working with an offsider that lives locally and is already familiar with and working onboard the boat 2-3 days per week to maintain and repair this beautiful vessel and bring her back to her full potential in life.
• You must have prior experience independently skippering and or working on small boats >20m 65ft.
• You must be self-sufficient and think ahead to deal with situations that may arise
• Be well present and have excellent communication.
• Be a motivated self-starter
• Ideally, you will have spent time working onboard timber boats and know and love the work required both at sea, and whilst moored.
• Fibreglass work, Sanding, Painting, Varnishing, cleaning interior and exterior as well as hull cleaning and general ongoing repairs to basic electrical systems and mechanical systems.

We own a Hotel locally on Thursday Island and you would be employed for this role through there paid weekly with a minimum of 38 hours per week, this work would qualify and count towards your visa extension.
