Builder To Put In Mezzanine Floor In Barn And Construct Geodesic Domes In Beautiful Tasmania

Mount Gnomon Farm Penguin, Tasmania

2nd Year Visa Eligible

Job Description

We're looking for a responsible, independent and hard working carpenter to help us construct a mezzanine floor in our function barn barn that is used for weddings and festivals. The work will be at our beautiful farm in north west Tasmania for a minimum period of three months, could be up to six from around the start of September. This position would allow you to qualify for second year visa if you do 3 months or even third year visa if you complete six months at the farm. The proposed building will be unique and a great project to work on. In addition we have to construct a camp kitchen and set up geodesic domes.

You will be required to have a white card and a suitable qualification as a carpenter along with carpenter experience. The position will require the successful applicant to work at times without supervision but also be part of our diverse team that we have at the farm. On site accomodation and food/meals from the garden/farm will be part of the job offer unless the successful applicant would prefer to live off the farm.

A bit about us - we're a young multicultural team running a mixed enterprise farm in a really beautiful part of Tasmania. The farm is called Mount Gnomon Farm, there are plenty of images on our facebook page and instagram accounts, or you can learn more through out website. We have an onsite butchery and restaurant, with extensive kitchen gardens and a 1000 tree cider orchard. We have recently branched out into weddings, festivals and events. When you are not busy constructing you could work behind a bar if you wished.

As for the team at the farm we work hard and play hard! We host a range of students and travellers through workaway. So there is always people to hang out with and travel around Tasmania with on days off. We have also hosted dozens of backpackers who have been employed for their rural work along with hundreds of international volunteers. We have been a successful and popular host for over 5 years and we have a real community at the farm.

The farm is 9km from the cute seaside village of Penguin in Tasmania's north-west, and it's right next to a mountain range that's great for bushwalking and mountain biking. We're just over 1.5 hours away from Cradle Mountain.

We're doing things a bit different to conventional farmers: we keep old-fashioned breeds that are at risk of extinction and we look after the whole process from paddock to plate.

We go to farmers' markets around Tasmania every weekend, and we attend food festivals where we make our famous 'pulled pork tacos' and 'smokey beef and bacon burgers'.

This is a full time position at the award pay rate minus food and accommodation if applicable. The successful applicant will also have access to a car for exploring Tasmania on days off. Please apply outlining why you feel like you would be suited to the position along with some information about previous carpenter experience. It is essential to include one professional referee and one personal referee and your telephone number so we can follow up.

Please just apply here, I will follow up with an email or phone suitable applicants. It is best not to call with more information unless you are contacted first.

All the best

Regards Guy

Description:
Our farm rests again the backdrop of the stunning Dial Range just south of Penguin. Our story starts over 11 years ago where we set out to promote ethical farming and become Tasmania's first free range commercial pig farm. We supported rare breeds selling free range pork products into some of Australia's finest restaurants. The farm and business has now developed and evolved into something much larger than we ever anticipated. In addition to an on farm butchery it has an on farm restaurant and a new barn for functions and events. This combined with beautiful gardens and a 1000 tree cider orchard has made it become both a beautiful event space and place to visit.
The farm has had a focus on not only producing ethical produce but engaging the community in the story behind the produce. This is why the farm regularly has open days and farm tours.
