For backpackers these part-time jobs are often centred around the hospitality and tourism industry, with positions like waiter, hotel worker and tour guide, the construction industry, with jobs like general labourer, traffic controller and tradesperson’s assistant, and the retail industry, including salesperson, marketer and customer service representative. Unlike a casual employee, a part-time worker:

• Has guaranteed hours of work.
• Will work on a regular schedule.
