There are many farm jobs in Sydney and the surrounding locations that are perfect for backpackers. Many of these jobs include caring for horses, with positions such as stable hands being widely available. Duties will include feeding and grooming the horses and cleaning out the paddocks. Most of these stable hand jobs don’t require you to ride the horses.

Other farm jobs in Sydney include general farm hands to care for animals or plant and harvest crops. You can also find work as a dairy farmer. This job might require the cleaning out of barns and the help with animal husbandry and birthing calves, as well as milking and feeding the cows.

Cattle herder is another popular position in Sydney. You’ll be responsible for keeping cattle together to prevent animals from wandering off and becoming lost or injured. For some roles, you will need to be experienced with handling cattle.

For a farm job that isn’t animal-based, you can try your hand at rural fencing. Farms often need damaged or old fences to be replaced or repaired to mark property borders or keep the livestock enclosed. This can be a very physical and labour-intensive job.

There’s not much scope for harvest work in Sydney, although you may find some luck with olive picking in the surrounding areas.
