Find farming jobs in Hobart

Perched at the very bottom of Australia in the island state of Tasmania is the picturesque capital of Hobart. The “Apple Isle” is a nature lover's paradise, with vast swathes of World Heritage-listed forests to explore and deserted beaches, not to mention Australia’s most famous alpine trek along the Overland Track. Hobart has blossomed in recent years, with great restaurants serving up the island’s gourmet produce and wines, an iconic waterfront weekend market and the cutting-edge Museum of Old and New Art which hosts festivals throughout the year.

Backpackers looking for farm jobs in Hobart can head 40 kilometres south to the Huon Valley region, famed for its apples and orchard fruits. Apples are harvested between March and May, while there is work picking cherries and strawberries during the warm summer months of December through to February. New Norfolk to the north of Hobart is another destination for cherry picking jobs, as well as hops which have a short season during April and May. Viticultural work can also be found in the Southern Tasmanian wine growing regions of the Coal River Valley and Derwent Valley during March/April and June through to August.
